I’ve worked on a range of award-winning nonfiction documentaries for TV that have been released on PBS, CNN, Netflix, and Hulu.

My work has encompassed conducting rigorous research on subjects and story-lines, developing treatments and scripts, organizing film shoots across the country, as well as impact campaigns that have brought films into cinemas, communities, and classrooms across the country.

I’ve included glimpses of these shows below, along with notes on my role working on them.

UNLADYLIKE2020

PBS’ American Masters

Created by Director Charlotte Mangin, Unladylike2020 is a series of 26 shorts about unsung & extraordinary women from 100 years ago, and the women who follow in their footsteps today - packed with animation, interviews, and rare archival footage.

The series was digitally released weekly on PBS’ American Masters, and the one-hour broadcast special, The Change Makers became the most streamed American Masters film. Below are some of the awards & recognition the series received:

  • Nominated for an Emmy award for Outstanding Documentary Series, as part of American Masters’ 2020 season

  • Nominated for Best Curated Series by the International Documentary Association (IDA)

  • Nominated for Outstanding Short-Form Series by the NAACP Image Award,

  • The series reached over 8 million viewers across the country, including thousands of educators, who used the digital shorts, as well as the free lesson plans, as remote learning tools throughout the pandemic.

The Series

For two years, I worked closely with the production, animation, and editing team to bring these 26 films, hour special, interactive website, and free educational content, into fruition.

I loved conducting in-depth research on the women featured, organizing shoots across the country with high- profile and emerging politicians, activists, artists, and more.

I also assisted with organizing screenings - in person and virtually - in museums, cinemas, and schools, as part of a vast impact campaign.

My Work on the Series

I wrote three episodes of the series, with the Series Director Charlotte Mangin- all linked below;

on performer and musician Gladys Bentley, trailblazing sculptor Meta Warrick Fuller, and the first Asian American doctor, Margaret Chung.

The Age of Influence - Hulu

The Age of Influence is a 6 episode documentary series made with ABC News, by Part2 Pictures, examining the dark side of influencer culture.

As a Field Associate Producer on the last episode of the series, I conducted investigative research and followed crimes taking place in real time, and found and interviewed subjects, organized shoots, and collaborated with the producer and executive producers on all scripts, as well as sourced legal documents and archival materials.

This is Life with Lisa Ling - CNN

I worked as an Associate Producer on two of the episodes of the last season of This is Life with Lisa Ling.

WE HAVE A DRINKING PROBLEM explored America’s epidemic of alcoholism - and how its upsurge through the pandemic has had a shocking impact on the health of approximately 15 million people - including a tremendous rise in a new population: women under 35. In this episode, Lisa meets with individuals struggling with alcoholism and trying different interventions, and goes into laboratories and hospitals where scientists are searching for solutions.

Awarded a 2023 Media Investigative Award by the Research Society on Alcohol

TIGER QUEENS is a road trip into the soul of post-Tiger King America, where abuse and exploitation of exotic animals continues; there are currently more tigers in captivity in America than there are in the wild around the world. In the episode, Lisa meets with passionate journalists, activists, scientists, and conservationists working to save these animals in captivity.

Season 8

This episode was about a rarely told part of American history- now called ‘the Lavender Scare’- when the U.S federal government began systematically persecuting LGBTQ people working in the government, which has had a lasting and profound impact.

As an Associate Producer, I worked from development through delivery; researching subjects- individuals who have been directly impacted by the Lavender Scare, and are re-writing this history - as well as rare archival footage, including hidden government records. I also collaborated with the Series Director to write two acts of the episode, as well as a digital extra for CNN.

Nominated for Outstanding Journalism - Longform by the GLAAD Awards

Wild Hope - PBS

Wild Hope is an eight-part series that crisscrosses the globe, following conservationists, activists, and everyday people who are restoring and protecting the natural world. It was awarded the 2023 AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Silver Award for In-Depth Reporting, which recognizes distinguished science reporting for a general audience.

I worked as a Post Associate Producer on the series, which is gorgeously shot and features amazing and incredibly hopeful stories about how communities around the world are transforming through the efforts of people living within them.

The Future Of - Vox Media, Netflix

I worked as an Associate Producer for the series from Vox Media & The Verge, for Netflix, on how emerging technologies will influence various aspects of our lives in the near and far future- from the future of dating and death, to fashion and headphones.

I conducted research on key participants for interview and verité shoots, conducted pre-interviews, fact-checked scripts, sourced locations for shoots across the country, and tracked deliverables.

Coming Soon

I recently finished working on developing a series for PBS about dementia - featuring the stories of the scientists and families who are now driving revolutionary advances in understanding and treating dementia, through a 2 hour film for broadcast, and 2 hours of digital pieces, to be released in Spring, 2025.

I also recently worked on in-depth research and wrote an extensive treatment for a narrative series in development.

Will share as more unfolds!
